Calling is a form of hunting where the hunter imitates animal sounds to attract game within shooting range by triggering curiosity or territorial behaviour.
For foxes, hunters use rodent squeaks or hare distress calls during the winter. The hunter stays hidden with the wind in their face, calls in short bursts, and waits silently — foxes often approach cautiously.
For roe deer (bucks), soft contact calls or mating calls are used during the rutting season (July–August). The hunter calls from field edges or forest borders, starting gently and increasing the intensity if the buck responds.
Use a class 1–2 rifle for foxes and a class 2 rifle for roe deer, and only shoot at stationary, broadside animals with a safe backstop.
