Hunting with Flushing Dogs (Stötande hund)

General information

Hunting with flushing dogs means that the dog searches close to the hunter, working within shotgun range (20–30 metres), and flushes game from cover so that the shooter can take a shot.
Unlike pointing dogs, which indicate game at a distance, a flushing dog’s task is to drive game into the air or open ground for a clear and safe shot.

This type of hunting relies on close teamwork between hunter and dog.
Typical breeds are English Springer Spaniel, Cocker Spaniel, or retrievers trained for flushing and retrieving.
After the shot, the dog must remain steady, wait for the command, and retrieve the game calmly and efficiently.
